Oracle on Friday purchased InnoDB, the Finnish open-source database company whose add-on table storage engine for MySQL rivals MySQL's own MyISAM in popularity.

So, this could be fun. We now have to see if Oracle is going to pull a Microsoft out of there butts, and make MySQL pay to use "InnoDB". Could be fun to watch!

Actually, I read an article specifically addressing the concerns of MySQL. The article basically said that since the InnoDB was free/open source and GPL'd, that if Oracle did try and make that move, that MySQL could further develop from the open-source version of InnoDB and would therefore not be subject to Oracle's whims.

So, I think MySQL should be fine, but it's an interesting move by Oracle, and I'm definitely interested to see where they are going with it.
