The process of creating / running a test server is this:
*Find computer to be test server
*Install Windows 2003 Server (around 1 hour)
*Install all upgrades & service packs to OS (around 30 / 45 min)
*Install SQL 2000 Server (around 30 min)
*Install SQL 2000 Service packs (around 15 / 30 min)
*Install Greatplains 7.5 Server (around 30 min to 1 hour)
*Install Greatplains 7.5 Client (On same computer as Server)
*Create companys in Greatplains
*Install / Patch GP 7.5 Client (around 15 to 45 min)
*Install Wennsoft SP 15 Server & Client (around 15 min)
*Run Wennsoft Utilities
*Import company data from existing files on LIVE server (unknown, cus I'm not here yet)
And there is more, but I'm not there yet.
And that is all hoping there is no errors that fuck this all up, which happens quite a lot in a server invoerment. So, lets just say that it takes a lot to even get the test server up and running, then we have:
*Install GP 8.0
*Install any patches
and other steps.
and that is not even all of it. I have to do all the above steps for a test server, but start out at 6.0, then advance it to 7.5, then take it to 8.0. Also, very soon, 8.5 will be out, and I will have to do this all over again. But, I do like it, it's just a lot of sit, wait, and pray. So, thats what I did at work today.
