Filming Mecca...

So when I say filming mecca, I am sure your thoughts turn to Hollywood, CA and really to the state of California as a whole. But if I was to tell you that the Albuquerque Metro Area and the state of New Mexico is the new film mecca, you might tell me that I am bloody crazy. Well I am here to tell you that you, my friend, are wrong.

Albuquerque and New Mexico are fast turning into the next Hollywood; attracting new filming company’s and film studios almost daily. Probably at least one or more of the Movies, TV Shows and/or commercials that you have seen as of late was filmed in New Mexico. We have landed some very high profile movies, including Transformers, 3:10 to Yuma, In The Valley of Elah, and Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Right now we have two really big movies filming here in New Mexico that are in production: The Transformers sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and the new Terminator movie "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins".

We have also been host to some really large TV shows including "Breaking Bad, In Plain Sight, Kid Nation, Wildfire, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

It also seems that we have large film studios popping up all over the place. Albuquerque is home to a few different studios including Albuquerque Studios & Sony Pictures Imageworks. Lions Gate is going to build in Rio Rancho and also a deal was just reached to build a film studio in our state capital Santa Fe too.

But so far I really had not seen any commercials that have been filmed here, until NOW!

Tonight I was watching American Chopper when I saw a Allstate commercial, and I thought the images in the background or the commercial looked really familiar. It was then that I noticed the whole commercial was filmed in and around Albuquerque. I was really shocked and I guess it really hit home how much things are filmed around here now.

The really funny thing, is the agent they used in the commercial, Julie L. Domenick, is not from Albuquerque, she is from Rocklin, CA, which is just north-east of Sacramento. Anyway, you can peep the commercial below:

So the next time you see a movie, TV show, or commercial you might just be looking at the beauty that I am lucky enough to see everyday here in New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment!
