Twee Vaders = Two Fathers

So there is a video on Goo-Tube (YouTube) that I have been watch / listening to for the past few days. It’s from a program out of the Netherlands called "Kinderen voor Kinderen" (click the link to learn more about the program).

The one song that I have been listing to is called "Twee Vaders", which when translated into English means "Two Fathers". The song, sung by a kid named Terence Uphoff, talks about how he (Terence) has two fathers.

So leave it to the Netherlands to be more accepting then the USA. There are days when I think I really should just move there, cus I really do wonder about the United States. Granted, to do that I would have to learn Dutch and we all saw how long it took me to pass French 101. LOL.

I have included both the English and the Dutch lyrics to the song below. Once you take a deep look at the lyrics, you can see what this song is all about. After hearing the song in Dutch (it has English subtitles) and looking at the Dutch lyrics I am now curious about the Dutch language, but not enough to learn it in a university setting.

I do say that this song is very uplifting and does give me personal hope. I also think that his fathers must be proud of their son. The song is a testament that as long as a child is brought up in a loving house, it does not matter if he has two fathers, a mother and father, or two mothers.

English Lyrics:
We live in a terrace house
we have nice stuff at home
we live there quite OK with three of us together
Bas works for the newspaper
and Diedrick is laboratorian
they adopted me when I was one year old

I'm still the only child
but that's OK with me
that way I get all the attention and love from those two
Bas brings me to the school
with Diedrick I play violin
and with three of us we watch soaps on TV

I have two fathers
two real fathers
Sometimes cool and sometimes strict
but it's going great with us

I have two fathers
two real fathers
who, if they have to
both can be my mother

When I have to go to bed
Diedrick checks my homework
and Bas does the dishes or is doing laundry
And if I'm ill or have a fever
then there's nobody I know
who can be so caring as Diedrick or Bas

He has two fathers
two real fathers
Sometimes cool and sometimes strict
but it's going great with us

He has two fathers
two real fathers
who, if they have to
both can be my mother

Sometimes I get bullied at school
of course it's not nice
"You're parents, they are homo!"
They find it strange
Then I just shrug my shoulders
"So what! I'm their son!"
It's not ordinary
but for me it's quite OK

Two real fathers
Sometimes cool and sometimes strict
but it's going great with us

He has two fathers
two real fathers
who, if they have to
who, if they have to
both can be my mother

Refrein
Hij heeft twee vaders
Twee echte vaders
Soms stoer en ook wel streng
Maar we hebben het heel fijn
Hij heeft twee vaders
Twee echte vaders
Die als het moet ook allebei
Mijn moeder kunnen zijn

Brug
Soms wordt ik wel gepest op school
Natuurlijk is dat naar
Jouw ouders zijn homo!
Dat vinden ze maar raar
Dan haal ik maar mijn schouders op
Nou en! Ik ben hun zoon!
’t Is niet zoals bij anderen
Maar voor mij is ’t heel gewoon

Refrein

I'm amazed you don't have any comments on this yet
This has been my favourite YouTube video since I stumbled across it a couple of weeks ago, and is likely to remain my favourite for some time to come.

Sorry, in preview it looked as though that was coming out as a link, but it didn't.
