A close call...

We have been having some power issues today that has exposed some major problems with our office. One of these problems is that our phone system does not have a UPS backup power system attached to it. We figured that out today when we kept blowing breakers here in our office. So after I figured out that there is not a UPS on the phone system, I went out this afternoon looking for one that would work.

I had been down at CompUSA and saw nothing I really liked, so I hopped on the freeway and went up the Uptown area to look at some stuff up there. So not finding anything I liked, I just decided that I was going to stop at Satellite Coffee to get something to drink before heading back to the office. So I was sitting at Americas Parkway and Louisiana waiting to go straight on the parkway where I was first in line at the red light.

So the light turns green, and for what ever reason (I have no clue why) but I hesitated and did not go. So after a few seconds I finally start to proceed thru the light when all of a sudden I just slam on my breaks and this car goes flying in front of mine on Louisiana. I am guessing that I saw this person out of the corner of my eye or something, but right as I got the car stopped in the middle of the intersection, this car going at least 40mph went flying in front of my car. I was only about 5 feet away from his car. The way I figure it, if I had not hesitated at the light, I would have gotten t-boned really bad.

After that I was really shaken up. I drove over to the Satellite Coffee just thinking about what could have happened had I been just a few seconds faster coming off that traffic light. My best guess is since I was driving my Dad's car (a Ford Probe) and the speed of the other person, I would have not walked away from that crash.

What I guess pisses me off, is that this is not one of the intersections with the red light cameras, so this person got off with out anything. I did not even get a chance to honk the horn or even flip him off. LOL. At first I was not a fan of the speed / red light cameras that have been installed here in the metro area over the past year or so. But in the past year with them being installed and running I am very happy with them. I only wish that the intersection I was at had been monitored by them.

Let’s just say that right now, I think I value life just a little more then I did when I woke up this morning.

Sounds like your guardian angel (or one of them) was certainly watching over you....thankfully. I remember Uncle Randy telling me a long time ago that he always hesitates when his light turns green, before proceeding into the intersection...It pays I believe!!! I think you will agree with that bit of advice, and I try to remember to do this each time...Glad you are alright, take care.

Re: A close call
Well I am just like Randy in that I always hesitate when the light turns green, but this was much longer then I hesitate, like 3 or 4 seconds past the 2 to 5 seconds that I normally hesitate.

But yes, someone was watching over me from above, thats for sure.
