A Fortune Cookie...

So, this was my Fortune Cookie tonight at Dinner, which I think is way to fitting. So, with out further ado, here it is: "You are in good hands." So, this is fitting cus I have been asking God for some guidence on a few things, and I think this is his way of saying, "Here's your sign". So, if I dont remember to say it, Thank you God!

New Job.........!

Ok, first let me say, if you get this more then once, then you in my address book twice, which is not that hard, cus some are  you are husbands and wife's, which I sometimes list separate, cus it's easer to get your cell phones and other numbers in that way, so don't worry if you get more then one.

Well, ok now I know all of you are going, I thought he had a job, which to that I answer, I do. But, in two weeks or so, I will be working for a new company doing something new. So, before I get 500 messages asking me where I'm going to work, and what I'm going to do, let me just answer them now. I'm creating a Q&A related to my new job, so if you don't see the answer below, then you can e-mail me.

Question 1: Who are you going to work for?
Answer 1: I will be working for a company here in town called CAC Heating and Cooling.

Question 2: Ok, so you are going to work for a heating and cooling company, what are you going to do there?
Answer 2: I will be their System Administrator, and in some cases a jack of all trades (which I know getting into this job)

Question 3: So, you say System Administrator, and Jack of all Trades, but what will you really do?
Answer 3: Well, When I say System Administrator, I will be responsible for all the computers, printers, servers, network, phone system, website, door locks (computer system), database, and anything else that I may have forgotten. As for the jack of all trades, well, first I have 2 words to say, Forklift Certification!. Yes, I will be licensee to drive a forklift. Which, how cool is that? LOL. Also, when the phrase, Jack of all Trades is used, it means, that if a wall needs to be painted, then I might paint it. If there is a desk or bookcase that needs to be moved, or put together, I might do it. Which, I really don't mind, cus A) I get paid to do it, and B) I know this going in.

Question 4: How much are you going to make?
Answer 4: Well, I'm not going to tell you how much, but lets just say that it's more then I'm making now, and less then what my mom or dad make.

Question 5: Are there benefits?
Answer 5: Well, not that I get any now, but to really answer your question, I don't know. I will find out more when I get the offer letter in the mail, which Dennis, my new boss, said he would mail today. So, once I get the letter in, I will add it up here, or something. So, wait and find out!

Question 6: What is going to happened or did happen to your current job?
Answer 6: Well, I gave my 2 week notice Tuesday Feb 1, 2005, and my last true day will be Feb 15, 2005. When I say true day, my boss still wants me to help with the computers and some other stuff around there on the weekends, and from home. So, I guess it would be true to say that I will have two jobs. Also, my boss said that if I find I don't like what I'm doing or something happens, I'm more then welcome to come back to RDA Design Group, and he said there will be a job for me there, which is very cool.

Question 7: What did you do at RDA?
Answer 7: Well, to give all you all a little background about my current job (yes, I still work there, so I did not get fired) Anyway, I started at RDA Design Group May 30, 2002, about 10 days after I graduated from High School. So, I have worked for RDA for about 2.5 years now, my longest employment ever! My last job I held for about 2 years, but I need to get a real job after high school. So, I have had 2.5 great years at RDA. I have gone to Las Vegas, NV about 5 times over the past 2 years. I have also gone to New Orleans once for a 3 day trade show, where we walked about 8 miles a day, just on the trade show floor, and then we went to Bourbon Street both nights, and we walked both times, cus it was about .5 miles from our hotel.
So, on to what I have done at RDA for the past 2.5 years. I have been project manager on many commercial kitchen design projects. My baby if you, is Jimmy's Cafe here in Albuquerque. I designed the whole thing, all the walls, the layout of the equipment, where the walk-in goes, where the office was, where the restrooms were, so when Richard (my current boss) took me there on opening day, it was magical to walk in, and see it all done, and running. I'm still happy about that. I know the owner, and ever once and while, I go in there, and if Steve is there, and see me, he still buys my food, which I try to tell him he does not have to do that, but he does it anyway. But, commercial kitchen design is not my only job there. I have done Marketing, I have done construction, I have done electrical, I have hung Christmas lights, I have ordered supplies, run to the bank, help manage a mailboxes ect. type store. Helped at a restaurant my boss owns, help open a restaurant my boss started, Shoveled Ice, Put sand on ice, cleaned the parking lot, moved the office completely 6 to 7 times, fallen off a ladder (only once), and other stuff. Well, I did leave out one thing, but this a bigger thing. I maintained the computers, network, & phone system. I fixed a dieing phone system, helped my boss find and buy a new phone system, wire up the phones and network each time we moved our offices, bought computers after we got robbed, bought more computers to replace really old ones that were dieing, Got Richard to use a laptop, instead of emailing very large files back and forth from his home to the office. There is other stuff, but this is not the place or time to write it.

Question 8: What is your new work address and contact info, like e-mail, phone number and extension?
Answer 8: Well, being that I just got hired Tuesday, I don't know. I will tell you all when I know that info.

Question 9: When do you start?
Answer 9: Feb 16, 2005.

Question 10: Last but not least, WHY, WHY, WHY?
Answer 10: Well, I guess the best what to answer this question, is by telling the whole story. (I will try to make this short, I hope, unlike question 7)
Ok, here it goes, My friend Brian, called my cell phone one night, saying, "Kevin, I've got a sweet deal for you, my mom works for CAC, and they are loosing there system admin, and I mentioned to my moms boss that I know someone who might be interested in this" and then gave me all the details, and who to contact. So, I was not really looking for a new job at the time, but was thinking about it, cus my boss does have mood swings sometimes, and I really just wanted a change of pace. So, I said ok, what the hell, so I called Dennis back, and we setup an interview time. So, I went to the interview, and found out that 9/10th of the stuff, I know well, and the other 1/10th, I know ok, and then there was one thing that I don't know that well, I can and will learn. So, at first, I did not know if I was going to take the job. The one thing that I don't know, was the one thing scaring the living crap out of me. So, that compounded with, the whole, I'm a good Lutheran, and don't like change, so I was really scared, and by Sunday had decide to turn the job down. So, I called Dennis at about 4:15PM on Monday, and told him why I was rejecting the job, and he said that they have a company on contract for the very thing I have a problem with, and if we have to use them, them we have to use them, so I was like, ok, can I have another day to think about it? To which he said, yes!. So, I thought about it all Monday night, and into part of Tuesday, when (with lots of help from friends and family), I decided to take the job. So, around 1:15 PM I called Dennis back, and told him, that after I thought about it, I would take the job. So, we then figured some stuff out, and I had a new job.
So, I then had the task of telling my current boss (Richard) that I was giving my 2 weeks notice, and hope he does not yell. So, I keep putting if off all day, and finally at 4:58PM, I was like "Hey Richard, Do you have a few minutes to talk?" and he said ya, so I was like "I first want to say I'm thankful for all I have done here at RDA, and for all the opportunities that you have given me, and I really don't know how to say this, but I'm giving my 2 weeks notice." I then coward like a mouse expecting to get yelled at or something close to that, and all he said was "Wow", and I then told him all the above info, and he said that it might be a good thing, cus it would give me a change of pace, and give me a new opportunity to try something different and have a different perspective on the world. Now, that was something I did not expect. I really did not. He was nice about it, and told me that if I changed my mind, and wanted to comeback, there would be a job for me at RDA Design Group.

Ok, So I hope I answered 9 out of 10 of your questions with this. I did send this out in an e-mail also, so if you felt you have read this before, you might have. Feel free to post comments on this, or if you have a questions you want me to answer, post it as a comment, and I will try to get back to you. If posting comments on my livejournal is not your thing, you can e-mail me, and I will try to answer, just understand that right now, my time is maxed out, so It might be a few days before I can get back to you.

So, I'm very excited, and very happy about starting my new job, and about starting a new time in my life. So, now, an hour and half later, this is the e-mail to tell you all that I have a new job. Thank you for reading, and I thank you for your time!
